Best Elevated Dog Beds and Raised Dog Cots

By TailTested Editorial Team · Updated · 4 min read

Coolaroo Original, our top elevated dog bed pick, with gray fabric on a steel frame

An elevated bed is fabric or mesh stretched over a frame, so the dog lies off the floor, and what separates these three is the frame, the weight guidance and the cleaning. Our top pick is the Coolaroo Original, a steel-frame cot with a 75-pound maximum weight recommendation for the Medium size and 81,168 ratings. K&H makes the lightest cot here, with tool-free assembly, and Kuranda an aluminum bed sold for dogs that chew.

Coolaroo and K&H describe outdoor use, and Kuranda calls its materials weather-resistant. One of the three disagrees with itself about the weight it takes, so we show both of its figures.

Our picks

  1. Best Overall: Coolaroo Original Elevated Dog Bed (Medium) · Amazon
  2. Best Tool-Free Cot: K&H Outdoor Elevated Dog Bed (Medium, 32 x 25 inch) · Amazon
  3. Best Chew-Resistant Bed: Kuranda Chewproof Elevated Dog Bed, Aluminum (X-Large, 44 x 27 inch) · Amazon

How we picked

We searched Amazon for elevated dog beds on October 14, 2026, sorted by review rank, set aside sponsored results and kept listings rated at least 4.5 stars on 1,000 or more ratings. We set aside a plastic basket bed that is not a raised cot. Then we opened the shortlisted listings and read the frame, fabric, dimensions, weight guidance, cleaning and assembly.

For a cushioned bed instead of a cot, see our orthopedic dog beds. If the bed is going in a crate, compare its size with the crate's; our dog crate picks list each crate's measurements.

1 Best Overall: Coolaroo Original Elevated Dog Bed (Medium)

Coolaroo Original gray elevated dog bed on a steel frame

4.5 out of 5 stars from 81,168 ratings on Amazon (as captured Oct 14, 2026)

  • 42 x 25.5 x 8 inches, with a 75-pound maximum weight recommendation in the spec table
  • HDPE fabric on a steel frame; hose off or wipe clean
  • Made from 100 percent recyclable fabric, per the listing
  • Covered by a one-year warranty against UV degradation

Coolaroo's Original has the lowest star rating of the three, on by far the deepest rating base. Beyond the ratings, its spec table gives a clear 75-pound maximum weight recommendation for the Medium size, and the listing says to hose it off or wipe it clean. Its one-year warranty covers UV degradation only.

2 Best Tool-Free Cot: K&H Outdoor Elevated Dog Bed (Medium, 32 x 25 inch)

K&H tan mesh elevated dog cot on a metal frame

4.6 out of 5 stars from 20,503 ratings on Amazon (as captured Oct 14, 2026)

  • 32 x 25 inches and 7 inches tall, 3.53 pounds
  • Tool-free assembly and a collapsible frame for travel, per the listing
  • Removable mesh cover, machine washable or hosed off
  • The bullets recommend it for dogs up to 40 pounds; the spec table lists 200 pounds

K&H's cot is the lightest of the three at 3.53 pounds and the only one whose listing describes tool-free assembly, and the cover comes off for the washing machine. Its bullets and spec table disagree on the weight it takes, so we would size it by the lower, 40-pound figure. The listing also says the cover is very tight at first and suggests sitting on the cot to help it settle flat.

3 Best Chew-Resistant Bed: Kuranda Chewproof Elevated Dog Bed, Aluminum (X-Large, 44 x 27 inch)

Kuranda silver aluminum elevated dog bed with smoke fabric

4.7 out of 5 stars from 1,149 ratings on Amazon (as captured Oct 14, 2026)

  • 44 x 27 x 8 inches in the X-Large size
  • Replaceable fabrics and hardware sold through Kuranda's store
  • Made in the USA, the listing says

Kuranda's listing pitches this bed at powerful chewers and large breeds up to 250 pounds. It sells the bed as chewproof, the spec table calls it chew resistant, and the description mentions a one-year chew-proof warranty. It has the highest star rating here, on the thinnest rating base of the three. The fabric is unclear: the title and description say heavy-duty vinyl, while the spec table gives Cordura as the cover material and polyester as the material type. It is sold and shipped by Kuranda, and its return terms say a return shipping fee may apply.

What to look for

Weight guidance for the size you buy

Check the figure for your size against your dog. Coolaroo's Medium lists 75 pounds and Kuranda's X-Large 250 pounds. K&H gives 40 pounds in a bullet and 200 in its spec table; use the lower figure.

The frame

Coolaroo uses steel, K&H a metal frame its spec table calls alloy steel, and Kuranda aluminum, in a bed its spec table calls chew resistant.

Assembly and portability

K&H describes tool-free assembly and a collapsible frame. The Coolaroo and Kuranda listings do not describe assembly.

Fabric and cleaning

Coolaroo uses HDPE fabric you can hose down, K&H a removable mesh cover for the washing machine, and Kuranda a fabric its listing calls vinyl in one place and Cordura and polyester in another.

The bottom line

  • Best overall: Coolaroo has by far the most ratings, a clear weight recommendation and hose-off cleaning.
  • Best tool-free cot: K&H is the lightest and assembles without tools.
  • Best chew-resistant bed: Kuranda pairs an aluminum frame with a listed 250-pound maximum, on the thinnest rating base of the three.

FAQ

Are elevated dog beds good for dogs with sore joints?

Coolaroo says its off-the-ground design eases pressure on joints, and K&H says its hammock-style support helps relieve joint pressure, but neither cites a study. If your dog has joint problems, ask your veterinarian which bed suits them.

Do elevated beds keep dogs cooler?

All three listings say the raised design lets air move around the dog. That is the brands' claim; none of the listings give a temperature figure.

Can these beds go outside?

Coolaroo and K&H say yes, and both name patios and decks. Kuranda's listing says its weather-resistant materials make cleanup easy indoors or outdoors, but it does not describe outdoor use directly.

Which bed suits a dog that chews?

Kuranda is the one sold for chewers; see its listing's chewproof and chew-resistant wording above. No listing can promise a bed a dog cannot chew.

How heavy are these beds?

K&H lists 3.53 pounds, Coolaroo 6 pounds and Kuranda 10 pounds, per their spec tables.
